Lecture 4 — Photosynthesis
- Photosynthesis converts light energy into chemical energy stored as glucose.
- Two stages: light-dependent reactions (thylakoid membrane) and the Calvin cycle (stroma).
- Light-dependent reactions split water, release oxygen, and make ATP + NADPH.
- The Calvin cycle uses that ATP and NADPH to fix CO₂ into sugar. No light needed directly.
- Chlorophyll absorbs red and blue light strongly, reflects green — that's why leaves look green.
